"It Doesn't Get Much Better Than This"
We recently spent a long weekend at Whitewing and while the weather was lousy, the hospitality of Sandy and Lance, our spacious and well appointed room, the home cooked breakfasts, the farm itself and location of the farm that was in close proximity to everything we wanted to see ... made our experience memorable. We will return.

"Visit to Longwood Garden"
We had a family trip and stayed in the Tack and Stable rooms. Sandy & Lance were very nice and very helpful with menus, recommendations, etc. It is a fantastic location for visiting Longwood and we spent many hours there so we were grateful to drive about 3 miles to get to the inn. The rooms were very clean and nice and the common area was also very pleasant. Tea is a self-serve event with biscotti and some cookies, not fancy but adequate. My one request would be that the breakfast be a little healthier and have some protein. It was nicely served but super sweet and I felt like I'd been to a dessert bar. I would definitely stay here again! Thanks, Sandy & Lance!
My husband and I just returned from a wonderful visit at the Inn at Whitewing Farm. This is the third time we have stayed at this terrific B&B, and it definitely won't be the last. We love it there! The owners, Lance and Sandy Shortt, are wonderful, friendly, and caring people, and their whole family is just as friendly as they are. The rooms are delightful and comfortable; Lance's breakfasts are delicious; and walking around the grounds of this fabulous inn is such a treat. There are so many things to do in this area of Pennsylvania and Delaware. We are already making a list of what we hope to see next time we go there. And of course, we will plan our trip to ensure that we can stay at Whitewing again! Thank you Lance and Sandy for another wonderful time! Y'all are the best!

"JUST beautiful - A Hidden Gem!"
Sandy the innkeeper was just lovely. Checked into this pretty countryside retreat just outside of Kennett Square for our annual mother/daughter weekend. Booked the Hackney Suite - a pretty yellow and blue spacious room with a great gas fireplace and lots of windows overlooking the tennis court and beautiful lush grounds. Just perfect for the 3 of us. When you pull up you feel as if you're in your own private resort with a gorgeous pond, lots of out buildings tucked here and there, a fabulous pool which was just closed for the season - but would have been amazing in the summer months! The fun little hay barn was the location for daily breakfast, coffee and complimentary refreshments, cookies, biscotti - a very nice touch. Big open, airy building with a gas fireplace and a lovely breakfast prepared by the innkeeper's husband who is a chef at a nearby restaurant. Hay barn is just feet from our room - so even on a cold day, only about 100 yards from the room. Sandy went out of her way to make sure everything was perfect - she clearly is the hostess with the mostess! Only negative - and not really a negative for us is the property can be hilly - and not completely flat for walking. My mother is 85 years old and she had no problem. Put this on your list of places to stay if you are visiting Longwood Gardens - just about 10 minutes at most by car. LOVELY!
Room Tip: If you want to save a little $ and don't need a huge room - pick a non-suite room!
"Beautiful and serene grounds and wonderful B&B"
I have stayed in many B&Bs and Inns in the US and abroad, My wife and I rank this up with the best. Most we have stayed at were one building but this was spread out over a beautiful farm. Our Jockey room was spacious and comfortable. The bathroom was large and could accommodate both of us, not like some B&B's who retrofit a bathroom in an old closet. Rooms were clean and well apportioned. The central area "barn" was bright and cheery. Even a working fireplace. Coffee and soft drinks and snacks were always available. I was a nice gathering place for our group. Breakfast was very good and tasty. Sausage and eggs one day and blueberry pancakes the next. Homemade pumpkin bread, muffins and granola parfaits. Our host and hostess Lance and Sandy were personable, friendly and attentive. All you needed to do was ask if you needed anything, especially since the place is spread out.The grounds are beautiful and quite serene. Close to Longwood gardens, restaurants and Brandywine valley attractions. Its number 1 and has a certificate of excellence for a reason. Would definitely go back.
Room Tip: If you have a disability book rooms close to the central area.

"Beauty and relaxation"
These two words are what come to mind when I think of our stay here. The property is stunning and the rooms are beautifully decorated with comfortable linens. Lance and Sandy are warm and welcoming and we felt as if we had known them forever as friends after just one nights stay! The breakfast was delicious and the presentation was that of a gourmet restaurant. We met the "Innkeeper in training" aka Lance and Sandy's granddaughter who is adorable. We will be returning very soon!!
"Best host and hostess ever!!"
We went to longwood gardens and stayed at this spotless Inn. The sheets for one thing were like made of the finest material ever!! the grounds were so beautiful, and Sandy and Lance are the perfect host. We had traveled 2 weeks staying at several b&b's but this breakfast was the very best ever. Lance such a wonderful host/chef and entertaining for sure.. I would suggest everyone looking for a place anywhere near this area to stop in this wonderful place!!!
"Inn at Whitewing Farm"
Great rooms, great service and convient location. Newly decorated rooms , very clean and wonderful breakfast. My wife and I were quest for 4 nights and we would highly recommend this B@B. The location to all the surrounding attractions was very convient. There is an outdoor pool and tennis courts as well.
"You won't want to leave"
I travel the world on business and generally stay at corporate hotels so chose this B&B to have a completely different experience. Put simply, there is room to breathe. The relaxed atmosphere and comfort is couples with a warmth from the owners Lance and Sandy that you just can't put a price on. These people live for their business with a passion that is inspiring. No wonder so many people are regulars. It's like coming home! The rooms are clean and wonderfully decorated. We stayed in the Daily Review - it has its own deck and hundreds of books on the shelf so perfect in any season. Coffee, teas, soft drinks and snacks some homemade are available 24/7 as are recommendations of things to see and anecdotes from the owners. I can't understand what anyone can find derogatory to say about this heavenly corner of the world. I didn't want to leave and will be back! Perfect base for exploring houses, gardens and for walking trails.
Visited for Memorial Day weekend and had a first class experience! The grounds are beautiful in bloom, we stayed in a cozy room that was extremely comfortable, and breakfast was top notch all three days. The Hay barn was quite nice, lots of snacks and drinks, and a friendly place to talk to other guests or the owners. Even got to watch the Longwood fireworks between the trees on the property!
Lance and Sandy were super friendly, and made an effort to make everyone feel welcome and comfortable.
As others have said, it's close enough to the attractions you want, but secluded and quiet we were looking for.
Would HIGHLY recommend and can't wait to return again!

Mother Daughter weekend"
We were lucky to get a room last minute and I am so glad that we chose Whitewing instead of a standard hotel. I wish we had more time to just relax there since the property is so beautiful but our schedule was packed. It was wonderful to be so sincerely welcomed by Lance and Sandy and the set-up in the barn was perfect for a hot cup of tea late at night or a popcorn snack while waiting to go to dinner. The luscious breakfast was the icing on the cake!

"One of the Best"
This inn is the model for others. The main building is welcoming, comfortable and always supplied with coffee, cold drinks, small snacks and ice. Best of all, the place was not cluttered with "collectibles", knickknacks, and dusty crocheted armchair covers.
The room we had, Paddock, was in a building separate from the main building, so quiet. The room was clean and the bathroom was spacious. Whenever we check into a place, the key is the issue of 2 reading chairs (so often we find one "easy" chair and a desk chair so one of us ends up sitting on the bed to read). This inn had the desired 2 wing chairs!
Breakfast was outstanding - beautifully presented and delicious.
I only will all inns and B&B's were as good as this.

"Beautiful, Clean and Cozy"
Stayed at Whitewing for a girls weekend away. The B&B is lovely and the new owners are very nice and accomodating. It felt like home only on vacation. The entire facility was imaculate and I am already recommending it to my friends and family. The breakfast was delicious and I was sorry we missed the afternoon tea because I am sure that was wonderful as well. We just loved everything about the entire property. Will definately visit again.

"Romantic and relaxing"
My boyfriend and I stayed here for a short vacation. We were looking for quiet, relaxing atmosphere and we found it here. We stayed in the Pond House and loved it! The room was nicely decorated and clean. We had a problem with the TV and it was resolved quickly. The Inn's grounds are beautiful and spacious. The pool was a pleasant surprise and we enjoyed our afternoon swims. Lance is a great cook so breakfast was delicious. It is centrally located so we were able to wander the area without having to travel a lot. We will definitely stay here again and highly recommend this Inn.

"Great Brandywine Valley place to stay"
In mid-August 2012, seven of us stayed at Whitewing for our annual family reunion. Some of us stayed for four nights and others for only two, but we all enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. The host family runs a successful Italian restaurant in addition to the inn, and the breakfasts revealed a very experienced cook in the kitchen. There are no short-cuts here: just the best ingredients, lovingly prepared. We had a lovely room with a balcony-porch, but we were so busy visiting the local sights--Longwood Gardens, Winterthur, the Brandywine River Museum, and the new Barnes in Philadelpha--that we never had time to sit in it! In addition to many menus from local restaurants, Sandy and Lance keep a notebook in which their guests record ther reactions to the restaurants as well: the Tripadvisor philosophy brought down to the local level. I've never seen so many inviting books in such good condition--every guest room, as well as the main gathering hall--was loaded with them.

"We can't wait to come back!"
Our girls group was thrilled with our visit to Longwood Gardens and our stay at the Inn. The new owners are so friendly and caring. They gave us the Gate House so our 3 rooms were all together in one building with our own deck and porch. the rooms were so beautiful. Newly renovated, nicely decorated, spotless and so comfortable. The gourmet breakfast was amazing! We can't to come back!

We had planned an overnight trip to see Longwood Gardens and came across an ad for The Inn at Whitewing Farm. We were delighted from the moment we drove up! The new owners could not have been more gracious, the property was so unique and the breakfast served was delicious! We are already looking forward to our next visit!

"Wonderful quiet B&B!"
I find this place online, It had just reopened under new owners. It has several rooms in various separate building around the property. Our room was the smallest but very pretty decor with a library of books available for borrowing. There is more privacy than most B&B. A large barn has been converted into the main breakfast and great room. Guests are free to come and go around the property. The location was great. Right behind Longwood Gardens. We visited, Nemours, Brandywine River museum, Longwood Gardens and the Hagley Museum. They all were within 20 minutes of the place. We had delicious gourmet breakfasts made by the owners. Sandy and Lance Shortt could not have been more welcoming. We plan to go back again.

We recently stayed here for a wonderful 3 day Mother/Daughter trip. The room by the pond was cozy and peaceful. Every night we were lulled to sleep by the water and loved sitting on the deck during the day to watch the ducks or read a good book in the sun. It is a gorgeous setting. The owners, Sandy and Lance, made us feel very welcome and made sure we had everything we needed. The breakfasts were cooked by Lance, a long time chef, and were absolutely amazing. There is so much to do in the area, we never ran out of things to do. Longwood Gardens, Winterthur, and Brandywine Museum are all close by. There is also places to hike, bike and canoe close by for outdoor enthusiasts!
